My True Story

Hi Everyone--this is my entry for Friday's inspirational story...Before you leave today, please look on the right to see the fun link party for next week.

When I was 19 years old, I had an experience I have remembered for a long time. It was the Friday night after Valentine’s Day. I went to visit a family who lived in a town quite far from my house in southern California. I had never been there before.

We visited for a few hours and when I left, I didn’t realize it but I took a wrong turn. I went miles and miles in the dark up a deserted mountain road in the Angeles National Forest. But, you see, even though I was lost, I thought I was headed in the right direction.

After driving for a long time, I started to get really scared. It was completely desolate. There were no houses, no buildings, no lights--nothing. That is when I realized that I must have gone the wrong direction. There were no cell phones in those days either. I was driving a little Toyota stick-shift.

After driving for a long time in the dark, I caught the outline of a young fellow. My headlights were on him as I began to round a curve. I stopped the car. He said he needed a ride. He got into my car. I told him I was lost and needed to find my way home. He had blue, blue eyes. He said that his father’s office was a few miles away, so we drove.

Finally, we came to an empty building. There were no houses or other buildings anywhere in sight. We went inside. There was a large map on the wall. I told him where I lived. He showed me the location of where I was, where my house was in relation to it, and how to get there.

I felt so relieved. He walked me outside. I thanked him, walked a few steps to my car, and he disappeared into thin air. I got in the car, found my way home, and got there safely.

Now, I know what you must be thinking...How could I let a stranger in my car? Well, I was lost and desperate. I was so far up on that mountain, I could not even see any city lights. Angeles NationaI Forest covers approximately 650,000 acres.

I consider myself lucky. Very lucky. But, I have always wondered who he could have been. I would have returned later to thank him (in the daylight) but I had no way of knowing where the office was located. All these years later, I feel that he was put on my path to help me find my way home. There is only one other detail I remember about him. His name was Chris.

  1. Cindy....what a story...wow!!! How interesting that you would find this guy walking on the side of a road..you stop at an empty lonely building with a big map on the wall and he helps guide you home :) :) :) What a blessing. Maybe he was a guardian angel? Well, either way, that is an amazing story...I probably would have done the same thing if I were in your shoes and I was needing to get home!!!
I'm still working on what I'll post this weekend :) :) I'm not sure which story to pick.
Random..but I think a couple of church camps I went to as a kid are in the Angeles National Forest...Forest Home and Indian Village East & West...all tied together somehow. I'm not sure where those old camp photos are located!!

So glad that young man helped you that night!!!

Love and hugs from Oregon, Heather :)

  2. Well Cindy, it does say we entertain angels unaware. I've heard other similar experiences like this when there was danger involved; how someone came out of nowhere to help and then disappeared. I like the part about it being his "father's office". (Heavenly father with a map!) Sounds to me like an angelic visitation. Really amazing, loved hearing this, and I can't wait to hear everyone else's! Wonderful idea for a link party.

  3. Honestly,
I have wondered if he was an angel...especially because of his blue-blue eyes...And weird, indeed that the map was at his father's office...and he didn't seem to go there for anything at all. How unbelievable was this story? And how lucky was I?

  4. Wow, this is amazing! Thank God for this! What are the chances that someone would be walking down a desolate road in the middle of the night... going to his father's office??? Where did he come from? If that was the only building in sight, he would have had to come from somewhere... That's really cool! It very possibly could have been an angel. Thanks for sharing this story!

  8. I do believe we can not only "entertain angels" as the bible says but also they so to speak "entertain" us.

  9. What an amazing story...I have been out there in the dark and there is no one out there. No landmarks, certainly no buildings. He most assuredly watched over us.
I received my dainty cross in the mail. Thank you, it is absolutely gorgeous. The photo did not do it justice. It is so finely detailed and delicate.
Thanks for checking in on me. The week just got a way from me but I will be posting tonight. Blessings sweet friend, Patty

  15. Cindy, what a story! I believe you are one of those fortunate people who have a real angelic visitation. Aren't angels ministering spirits? That person, whether human or otherwise, was certainly ministering to your immediate need.

I love the look of your blog. I just wish my computer could load it faster. I love the roses. So beautiful.

  16. Yes, "entertaining angels unawares". And if we were aware we would probably be real goofy. hugs♥olive

  20. Wow Cindy! Hmm...we entertain Angels daily...indeed! We are protected by God's servants and Heavenly Hosts...No doubt!! Even if Chris wasn't an Angel, he was working with the Father...sure of that! He went right to a map on the wall in an abandoned building? No coincidences in life...none. You were/are walking under some Divine Love...now how wonderful is that!!
Cindy...I absolutely love visiting your site. This is a blessing to me as is meeting you. I feel so close to you already. Now maybe you just have that effect on everyone...nonetheless, you have that effect on ME! Hugs xoxo Lovey

  22. That is a lovely story. I'm glad that young man was there to help you.

I must tell you this...I have a HORRIBLE fear of lonely, desolate roads. Even when my husband is with me, I have an irrational fear of being on a dark, deserted road. So your story sent chills down my spine.

    Have a lovely day.

    Hugs,
Patti (Fill My Cup with Beauty)
