What's in a Name?

Guest Artist: Christine

When I saw this delightful piece by Christine, it reminded me of how important our names are. When someone mentions your name, what kind of feeling do they get? When they hear your name, do they think of you as a cheerful person? Do they think of you as someone who is helpful?

Think of different people in the Bible and what their names mean to us. When we think of Noah, we think of the Great Flood. When we hear the name of Job, we think of someone who went through trials and tribulations

So names really do carry an essence with them. Our names are the way in which we are recognized. They are personal.

I think of how miraculous that concept is in regard to prayer. When I pray for each one of you, God knows exactly who I am talking about. He knows your name. He knows your needs. Out of all the people with your name in the world, when mentioned in prayer, He knows exactly who I am talking about.

But, it goes even further than that. In Psalm 139, the psalmist tells us that God knows when we sit down and when we stand up. It says He knows every word that we say.

In short, God knows everything about us. He knows if we are having a good day or a bad one. He knows what our needs are. But, like the psalmist, it is important to talk to Him and ask for help to work through things in a manner that only He can.

I marvel at how God answers prayers. He is never “a day late and a dollar short.” We may not know His entire plan, but when we ask to be part of it, that is when things start to flow.

I will consistently hold your names up in prayer and ask for wondrous miracles to be present in your lives.

Hugs,
Cindy

  1. My name means 'warrior woman'! Quite a big name for a short woman, lol! I am always going to war for all that is right and good and Godly...so I AM my name in so many ways...but I love 'peace' and hate confrontations. So glad to have met you Cindy! Cindy- cinders, like from the ashes...makes me this of 'them dry bones' and how God raised them up and gave them life again. You share that life with us through your blogging and I thank you!!!

  2. It's so true that He knows each one of us by name!
It also reminds me how important it is to live up to our names. Many of us have been named for someone and certainly we all carry a family name. We should always remember to honor our family names...and His name as well!

  6. Great post, Cindy. Names have meant much more in times past and in different cultures, but they are still important. I think everybody likes to hear someone say their name. How wonderful to know that God knows everybody and knows their name.
    Thank you again for sharing.
    Blessings,
    Charlotte

  11. Who am I that the Lord would take note of me? Not only does He know me by name, He has a brand new name to give me when He calls me home! How awesome is that? He has a new name for you too.

Thanks for the wonderful post. God bless, Bobbi

  12. This post reminds me of the song, "He Knows My Name." I posted about it at http://bornagainandblessed.blogspot.com/2009/11/he-knows-my-name.html .

  13. You are all so inspiring...I am overwhelmed with joy in knowing you and getting to meet you on here....Bobbi, I didn't know that we would receive a new name...thank you for telling me that! How amazing. I know that in the Bible class I took in the winter, I was told that He also has a song for each one of us too...I thought that was so special.
And "Living for God," yes you did it perfectly...I'm so happy because you have such wonderful blogs.
Thank you all for your beautiful, insightful comments.
