Operation: Healthy Husband

Hi Everyone:

I know that you have followed my journey of the past few days and I could not have gotten this far without you and your prayers lifting up my husband and me. So, I thought I would give you an update about how things are going with my new regimen, simply known as "Operation: Healthy Husband." (For this I think we could use some theme music from "Rocky.")

Yesterday, I went to the store and bought $200 worth of fruit, vegetables, some turkey and fish...For the past 24 hours, I have been slicing and dicing more than I have in my entire life. I feel like we live in a virtual vegetable garden and it's beginning to feel like we are bunnies!

I took a picture, but this cannot begin to show you that every nook and cranny of our fridge is filled with apples, peaches, squash, cucumbers, green beans, cantaloupe, carrots, celery, strawberries--you name it, I've got it! (Did I mention that I'm longing for McDonald's?) We've only been at this 24 hours and already the Golden Arches are feeling like they are the gates of heaven.

But, we will persevere...Actually, Ralph is better at all this than I am as he is from a farming community and loves a huge garden. I'm from the city and love a huge mall.

I figured that it was about time to give you something to bring a smile to your faces as this has been such a serious blog for over a week and I had to show you what is going on right now in the life of this family with their little dog....And did I mention that even our little Maltese Jamie has turned his nose up at the thought of eating this way...He looks at me like, "Hey Mom, where's my hamburger?"

When Ralph was in the hospital, he looked all over for him and couldn't figure out why he was away...Now, his tail just wags because he's so happy to see him back home. If I had a tail, I'd be wagging it too!! I'm so happy he's home!!!

I am linking this up to Spiritual Sundays I can't thank all of you enough for your prayers during this trying time...It has meant so much to me. Charlotte, Ginger, Clif--thank you more than words can say!!!!
To everyone who visits this blog, your prayers mean so much and they have kept me going during such dark hours...
and gave me hope!

Love,
Cindy

  1. Hi Cindy! :)
I'm really glad to hear you're helping your husband to get healthy! Good for you!
Your comment about McDonalds is hilarious, because a few months ago I was on a mostly veggie diet, and I was CRAVING McDonalds... and I rarely ever eat there! (I love Wendys occasionally!)
Hmmm... Something about veggies makes us crave McDonalds! LOL
I'm so glad your maltese is happy! When mine is happy, I'm happy! :)
    Have a wonderful day!

  5. Hi Cindy - Praise the Lord your Husband is on the mend. You are both truly blessed to be given a second chance here on earth. I lost my Husband of ten years a little over 4 years ago due to an enlarged heart that we unfortunately were not aware he had. He was only 37 years old. It happened in the middle of the night while he was sleeping. However, we did try to save him but it was not God's will. Since that tragedy the Lord has blessed me and I am happily remarried to an incredible man. We never know what the Lord will allow us to experience but know that He loves us and will provide blessings in the darkest circumstances if we lean on Him.

Sorry for this super long comment (there's so much more to our story, you can check out my older posts at personal blog at http://OneBlessedMommie.blogspot.com )

I am truly happy for you that your Husband made it thru and you have the tools to move forward to help his condition. It's probably not very fun to eat so healthy - I'd have a hard time skipping all the junk food too! Hang in there! ;). You and your Husband will be in my prayers.

    Sincerest Blessings,
    Missy

  10. I admire your enthusiasm to change your habits to help Ralph. And thank you for the tip on that Derek Prince book. I want to read it! My daugther, Carrie, and I pray one of his printed prayers every evening. He was awesome.

  13. Oh, I'm happy he is home too!!! Thank God for answered prayer.

I understand about the healthy eating thing. Especially because my weakness is potato chips and French fries. (And I kid you not, JUST as I was typing the word "French," my daughter said to me, "I want some French fries." And I said, "We'll get some when we go out today.")

We eat alot of salad, but not nearly the amount of fruits and veggies that we should. I think ALL of us need to follow the example of you and your husband...and not wait until something happens to push us that way.

That said, I'm STILL getting French fries when I'm out today. I'll start the healthy living tomorrow.

Love to you, my sweet friend,
    Patti

  15. I am so happy he is home and hopefully feeling much better. You had me laughing the whole way through this post. My husband and I are a little bit of McDonald junkies. Its fast, easy, inexpensive and good. Hope that you can learn to love vegetables like the rabbits do :) Have a great weekend. Thanks for making me laugh.
    Hugs,
    Kim

  17. OH Cindy, what a hilarious post. I am glad life is returning to a healthy normal. Good to see you, your hubby and furry kids are happy again.
As, for McDonald's you aren't missing anything (yuk). Now that you have led the horse to the water the trick will be to make him drink. Good luck!

  18. :) Your post made me smile. I am glad to hear your husband is doing better. I became a vegetarian a few months ago. I don't know what it is but the last two weeks I have been craving meat, junk food and the like. Maybe its the fall weather, making me desire "comfort food" or something. Anyway, I know how hard it is to resist the unhealthy stuff!!!! Hang in there.

  19. How very wonderful your hubby is home. We are on a restricted diet in our home due to health issues and eat alot of veggies and lean meats..

  20. Cindy - I'm so thankful your husband is home. I had to smile about your McDonald's craving...you know the old saying, "you don't miss your water until he well runs dry."

  23. Cindy, Praise the Lord that Ralph is home and doing well. It sounds like you have a pretty good plan!I did that for my husband last year he lost almost 20 pounds, the problem is he didn't stay with it. I got tired and now he put the 20 pounds back on. I will pray for you during this journey.
    God Bless,
    Ginger
I'm glad your little dog is a happy camper now:)

  24. I'm so glad Ralph is doing well. A lot of prayers went up for him and for you as well. All those fruits and veggies sounds good to me, but like you, a hamburger thrown in with lots of french fries sounds good too. We went on a Mediterranean cruise in 1978. I still remember how much I longed to get back home and eat a hamburger. I got tired of that Greek cruise ship food. That was so long ago, but I remember it vividly. Thanks for putting the smile on my face today.
    Continued blessings & prayers,
    Charlotte
